Hello Classmates -
I hope this finds all of you well and in good spirits. Having survived the holiday season intact, I am sensitive to how draining this time of year can be to us all. So we look to a new year with hope and anticipation. It is in this spirit that I invite you to spend a few minutes reading this posting and prayerfully considering it in your hearts. Many of you know about my son Caleb. For those of you that don't here is the short version. Caleb was born with a severe congenital heart defect known as Tricuspid Atresia. Because of this condition he will require 3 complex open heart surgeries. He has done very well through the first two, but he faces another in the summer. He is a great kid and the joy of our life. In the next couple of weeks he will have his 3rd birthday party. This is something that at the time of his diagnosis, at 20 weeks gestation, we could not even have imagined the day would come. It is through Littlehearts that we were able to understand and cope with the challenges that lay ahead. We were fortunate to have a great cardiologist and excellent prenatal care. Others aren't as fortunate and quite a few doctors and medical professionals are undereducated about CHD and the range of effective treatments. That is where Littlehearts comes in. They have championed the cause of bringing CHD awareness to the public. Through their network of members they provide support and encouragement to families with CHD. But they need help. That is where I come in. I have taken up my cross and begun training for The Big D Texas Marathon. I will participate on April 3, 2005. I will use this venue to raise much needed funds for Littlehearts.
This is where you come in.
I am asking for donations in my sons name to go to Littlehearts. My goal is to raise $100 per mile for a total of $2620. Please help me in this effort by donating online. Remember, your donation is tax deductible. Thanks to all who have already donated, your generosity has been truly overwhelming. You are the best people I know... to donate on line you can visit www.active.com/donate/calebsheart.
Thanks - Dave Meese

RE: THE TSUNAMI IN THAILAND - We're all ok, we avoid that area during Christmas. We know lots of people who were down there, I just talked to three families who just got back at the market. Harrowing experiences, all. Some friends of ours are in the hospital, they have 6 year old twins who are missing. The response here has been tremendous. If anyone wants me to find out the status or whereabouts of family of friends, please let me know, and I will relay the message to the US embassy. I will be out of the country on the 1st, so try and let me know in the next 48 hours. The embassy website is www.usa.or.th.

The Brophy Alumni - San Diego Chapter met for lunch today. Andy Coy, Andrew Kaplan, Matt Kaster and Bill Woods were in attendance. Jeff Brown had to cancel at the last moment. An exchange of fatherly experiences were shared with a now terrified father-to-be, Bill Woods.

Beginning November 19, anyone living in Phoenix is invited to
come to Duck and Decanter on Fridays after work (or after whatever else you do
all day on Friday). This is going to be a standing event until/unless people
stop showing up. Bring your spouse, your kids, your pets, your laundry -
whatever. The Duck has food and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and space
for the kiddies to play. So a week from Friday, let's kick off this new
tradition.
P.S. I'm David Dodenhoff, and I approved this message. But it was Marc Ashton's
idea. He was just too lazy to come here and post it.

Dear Friends:
I wanted to share with you the latest on Brophy students.
Actor/Director Tim Robbins has created a stage adaptation of his Academy Award
winning screenplay "Dead Man Walking", the story chronicles the collision
between real-life anti-death penalty activist Sr. Helen Prejean, C.S.J., and
death row inmate Matt Poncelet, a fictionalized composite of several condemned
men with whom Sr. Helen actually worked with in the Louisiana State
Penitentiary. It examines issues of forgiveness, redemption, and the dignity of
individuals and society.
Tim Robbins opened the opportunity to Jesuit high schools and universities
only. Brophy is one of two dozen schools who have accepted the challenge.

The play has inspired a week-long summit at Brophy discussing issues of human
dignity with speakers Father Stephen Barber, S.J. ?Chaplain at San Quentin
Maximum Security Prison; Hon. Michael Ryan, Justice of the Arizona Supreme
Court; Kent Cattani, assistant to Arizona Attorney General; Hon. Rudy Gerber, of
Shughart, Thomson, and Kilroy, former judge, and current ASU law professor;
Jimmy Santiago Bacca, poet and author of A Place to Stand; Rev. John Auther, S.J.,
chaplain in prison ministry; Dan Maynard, of Cronin, Erickson, Curran & Sparks,
who provides much pro bono work for death row inmates; and Larry Hammond of
Osborn and Maledon, founder of the Arizona Justice Project.

Ola mis amigos, Ashton suggested Duck & Decanter for the post
reunion gathering. (Date and time unknown at this time). Marc mentioned it is
kid friendly, serves coldies to the grown ups and has live music...sounds like a
winner to me?
Ashton, think real hard about the lay out of D&D, as I recall, we can stash a
keg in the oleanders adjacent to the patio and viola: we can have an adult-style
keg party. Oh how far we've come!
P.S. Marc, can you locate (and will you wear) the BCP mascot head....the old
one? Is the suit still available?

Walters, Dodenhoff, and West meeting at McDuffy's tonight (10/16) in Tempe at 5:45 PM.
From Dawn (DiPasquale) Balzarano - Posted 7 October 2004
Hello everyone,
Well, I won't be able to make it to the reunion, unfortunately! I'm so
disappointed, but it's just bad timing for me right now.
Other than that, life is good. I'll be thinking of you all this weekend and
remembering the crazy and fun times we had "back in the day."
Thanks to Bill for creating such a great website, too.

John Walters has written an excellent book about the UCONN women's basketball team. My wife, an alumni, remembers the beginning of the program and cheers during each Elite Eight. Well done, John! See his book link on this site using the following: John Walters - The Same River Twice.
